Teletherapy – Access Our Services Online

Teletherapy Speech Occupational Therapy Services at TSH

Telethon Speech & Hearing is adapting to the rapidly changing environment by offering teletherapy support services for existing and new families. We understand and respect families who choose to or are unable to attend face-to-face sessions with our therapists and want to reassure families that we are doing everything we can to provide ongoing support to children under our care.

It is very important for a child to maintain their hearing, speech and language development in order to make consistent progress.

Consistent attendance in speech/language therapy sessions allows routine practise of communication skills, as well as faster progress toward therapy goals. When children do not have consistent attendance, their progress slows, and they are more likely to regress during these periods of time when they are not receiving services. When a child regresses—or loses ground—extra effort must be spent during important therapy time reteaching previously learnt skills instead of moving forward with a new lesson. Slowed progression or regression may result in a longer duration of speech/language therapy.

TSH’s teletherapy services allow families who have children with hearing, speech, language and literacy challenges to continue to receive ongoing support from our specialist team of allied health professionals while at home. No referral is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How does teletherapy work and how long is a session?
Teletherapy is the online delivery of speech, occupational, and auditory-verbal therapy services, over the internet, through a live video connection.
Teletherapy is very similar to what a child receives in a face-to-face session; it’s just done using a computer or mobile device. If you’ve ever used Skype on your computer or FaceTime on your iPhone, you’ve already used a similar type of technology! A session will run the same amount of time as a normal face-to-face session and you will be guided by a TSH therapist the entire time.

  2. What services can my child and family receive online?
TSH currently provides one-on-one Speech Pathology, Auditory-Verbal Therapy, Audiology, Occupational Therapy and Psychology through teletherapy.

  3. What resources will I need at home to access teletherapy services?
You will need an internet connection and personal computer or mobile device with audio and video capabilities. An advantage of teletherapy sessions are that they are held in the comfort and safety of your own home. TSH therapists can use the toys and resources you already have at home to complete each session.

  4. I’m not very good with technology. Is teletherapy easy to set up?
Yes, TSH uses simple software that is compatible with most computers and mobile devices that run on either Windows, iOS, macOS and Android operating systems. You can use an iPad, iPhone, or any other brand of tablet/smart device with audio and video capabilities. Our therapists will guide you through the entire process and provide you with simple instructions to help you get started.

  5. What age is best for my child to access teletherapy?
Any age is appropriate. TSH will personalise our services based on your family and child’s needs.

  6. How much does teletherapy cost?
Please contact us to discuss payment options, including fitting this into your child’s NDIS plan.

  7. Can I access teletherapy under my NDIS plan?
Yes, our teletherapy services can be funded under your current NDIS plan.

  8. Can I receive teletherapy for group sessions?
Yes, TSH is currently working on this service for families. Please keep an eye on our website for updates on when this will become available.

  9. Do I need to be a current TSH family or client to access your teletherapy services?
TSH offers teletherapy to both existing and new families/clients. No referral is needed to request an appointment for our services.
